To Be King: Colonising Foucault’s Las Meninas
43 prints : 420 x 300mm on 6mm polymer, Edition 5 + 1 A.P.
These images combine text and image to explore the thematic and conceptual concerns that were the inspiration for the installation, To be King. The 'book', To Be King: Colonising Foucault’s Las Meninas, uses the chapters of The Order of Things by Foucault as a meta text to structure the process.
The ‘chapters’ that follow navigate between theory (language) and a personal description of a visual and auditory process and includes an essay on the To Be King installation, ‘The Visual Field and the Place of the King’ by cultural critic James Sey from the University of Johannesburg.
